about

This was the second single from The Traitors album which was released in advance and featured a music video directed by Jarod Millsap which utilized the footage my husband had shot prior. Initially this song was going to be the first single from my second solo album, but then The Traitors had become such a big part of my music that we decided to do a band album, so the song was retooled with contributions from the band members. This new mix retains some of the band contributions including Liana’s wonderful bridge, but has been cleaned and polished up a bit.

lyrics

Whenever you leave I feel it’s generally expected that I’ll fall apart
I follow the path marked ‘do not enter’
Visions recast with the people who last I’d wanna see at the end of the world
no voices, only echoes
the damage is done, it went down with the sun

You leave me high and dry
you leave me wondering why
you leave me high
you leave me questioning why
whenever you leave I forget what I believe
the problems multiply
you leave me high
you leave me

whenever you leave it comes so easily
invasion of my fortress
storming in just like winter
I’m incomplete so I’m resigned to compete
with myself and the demons within
the voices and the echoes
the damage is done, it went down with the sun

You leave me high and dry
you leave me wondering why
you leave me high
you leave me questioning why
whenever you leave I forget what I believe
the problems multiply
you leave me high
you leave me

go on, go ahead
go on and cut my safety net
it’s warm when you’re here and cold when you go
sun when we’re together then you leave me alone
I gave you everything didn’t I?
now the damage is done, it went down with the sun
and I’m alone

about

Devin Tait Sacramento, California

Having transplanted himself from Kansas to California around the turn of the millennium, Devin Tait quickly found himself derailed from his original plan to join a boyband. Meeting a couple of guitar playing lesbians at karaoke led Tait to form the band Shitting Glitter with Amy Crosby and Von Edwards. After nearly a decade with the band, Tait decided it was time to branch out on his own. ... more
